Resumo: This article positions itself at the intersection between the local and aesthetic turns in Peace Studies, seeking to examine how art can contribute to transform the dynamics of violent conflicts by encouraging local people and communities to reflect critically on the structural and cultural factors that restrict their possibilities of life. The discussion isillustrated through performances influenced by the theater of the oppressed carried out by Rafiki Theatre and Badilika Theatre in areas of violent conflicts in the African continent, seeking to highlight, finally, some critical aspects related to the possibilities and limitations of the interaction between art and peacebuilding.

La discusión se ilustra a través de actuaciones influenciadas por el teatro del oprimido realizadas por el Teatro Rafiki y el Teatro Badilika en áreas de conflicto violento en el continente africano, buscando resaltar, finalmente, algunos aspectos críticos relacionados con las posibilidades y limitaciones de la interacción entre arte y construcción de paz.Este artigo posiciona-se na interseção entre as viradas local e estética nos Estudos para a Paz, procurando examinar como a arte pode contribuir para transformar as dinâmicas dos conflitos violentos através do estímulo à reflexão crítica das pessoas e comunidades locais sobre os fatores estruturais e culturais que restringem suas possibilidades de vida.
