Resumo: This article intends to present a reflection about the current training program for Sub-Unitcommanders within the Brazilian Army. It focuses on Infantry Companies and Cavalry Squadrons.The reflection seeks to justify the implementation of a course for Sub-Unit commanders, whichnecessity is featured throughout the text. Therefore, it’s initially presented the current framework ofthe professional training for the officers of combat arms and its issue. Afterwards, the national modelis compared to different models used by other Armies, based on interviews with officers whom havebeen assigned to overseas operations. Finally, it’s pondered about the adoption of a new way toprepare the sub-unit commanders in Brazilian Army.

O presente artigo visa apresentar uma reflexão sobre a atual formação dos comandantes desubunidade do Exército Brasileiro, com enfoque nas companhias e esquadrões. Essa reflexão busca,em sua essência, analisar a necessidade do estabelecimento de um curso para comandantes desubunidade, cuja premência é caracterizada ao longo do texto. Para tanto, apresenta-se inicialmentea sistemática atual da formação técnica e os seus principais óbices, identificados com base naexperiência do próprio autor. Na sequência, comparam-se os modelos adotados nacionalmente e emoutros exércitos, conforme entrevistas realizadas com oficiais que cumpriram missões em outrospaíses, para, por fim, ponderar-se sobre a adoção de um novo formato para a preparação do oficialcomandante de subunidade no Exército Brasileiro.
