Resumo: Today we confront issues related to design and the environment due to the need to reduce aggressions to nature, especially in the production of non-recyclable waste. In the field of jewelry, questions run deep when it comes to mineral extraction. And, in terms of production, is the jewelry designer responsible in some instance? Can the way of designing the jewelry and its life cycle change the result of the ecological impact? This article seeks to elucidate some aspects of this reflection bringing to the present the ideas of Papanek (1971, 1995), one of the pioneers in approaching this subject, with counterpoints by Crocker (2016) and Cardoso (2016).
