Heuristics: A framework to clarify practiceled research

Resumo: This article seeks to define a heuristic framework within artistic practice-led research by determining its key aspects. It presents the author’s doctoral thesis as a practical example of how such a framework is useful to help clarify enquiries where artistic artefacts and spaces form the substance of iterative experiment and reflection. Adapted from its original discipline of psychology into a number of other scholarly fields, heuristic enquiry now bears a plethora of specific but incongruent interpretations. Therefore, I suggest it is timely to define heuristics specifically for experiential artistic investigation. Such a framework may support a researcher through several existential aspects: It develops the practitioner’s self-awareness, and a sensitivity towards connecting perception and tacit understanding. It facilitates the discovery of new meaning from and through artistic experiences by allowing an exploratory question to evolve. Finally, it fosters exchange, building interpersonal learning.

Ele apresenta a tese de doutorado do autor como um exemplo prático de como tal estrutura é útil para ajudar a esclarecer questionamentos onde artefatos e espaços artísticos formam a essência do experimento iterativo e da reflexão. Adaptada de sua disciplina original de psicologia em vários outros campos acadêmicos, a pesquisa heurística agora apresenta uma infinidade de interpretações específicas, mas incongruentes. Portanto, sugere que seja oportuno definir heurísticas especificamente para a investigação artística experiencial. Tal estrutura pode apoiar um pesquisador por meio de vários aspectos existenciais: desenvolve a autoconsciência do praticante e uma sensibilidade para conectar a percepção e a compreensão tácita.
