Charles Baudelaire’s “A Uma Passante”: the three times of an image

Resumo: In the sonnet “A Uma Passante”, the pictorial description occurs in three stages: the report of the instant of the object’s capture, the description of the form, and the reflection on the contingency of vision as an experience and its recollection in the time of literature. The implicit intertext between the sonnet and the essay O Pintor da vida moderna is considered, raising the hypothesis that such times constitute an iconology that is both dedicated to describing images and to reflecting about its relationship with modern temporality. We look at Liliane Louvel’s considerations on pictorial description, as well as Didi-Huberman’s “aperçues” concept-image.

Se considera el intertexto implícito entre el soneto y el ensayo O pintor da vida moderna, planteando la hipótesis de que tales tempos constituyen una iconología que se dedica tanto a describir imágenes como a reflejar su relación con la temporalidad moderna. Utilizamos las consideraciones de Liliane Louvel sobre la descripción pictórica, así como el concepto-imagen “apercebença” de Didi-Huberman.No soneto “A Uma Passante”, a descrição pictural ocorre em três tempos: o relato do instante da captura do objeto, a descrição da forma e a reflexão acerca da contingência da visão enquanto vivência e da sua rememoração no tempo da literatura. Considera-se o intertexto implícito entre o soneto e o ensaio O pintor da vida moderna, aventando-se a hipótese de que tais tempos constituem uma iconologia que tanto se dedica a descrever a imagem quanto a refletir sobre sua relação com a temporalidade moderna.
