Resumo: In the current paper, we seek to highlight aspects of the criticism produced by the poet João Cabral de Melo Neto in favor of a literature committed to a social reality and to a communication with his readers in the 1950s when, after being removed from the position of vice-consul in London, remained in Brazil to be inquired, accused of subversion. This is an important moment in the path of this writer whose poetry was created in an ongoing process of poetry search and criticism.

This is an important moment in the path of this writer whose poetry was created in an ongoing process of poetry search and criticism.En el presente trabajo, pretendemos destacar aspectos de la crítica producida por el poeta João Cabral de Melo Neto en pro de una literatura comprometida con la realidad social y con la comunicación con el lector en los años 1950, cuando, tras ser removido de la función de vice-cónsul en Londres, permaneció en Brasil para responder a una investigación judicial, acusado de subversión. Se trata de un momento importante en la trayectoria de este escritor cuya poética se hizo en continuo movimiento de demanda y de crítica de la poesía.No presente trabalho, pretendo destacar aspectos da crítica produzida pelo poeta João Cabral de Melo Neto em prol de uma literatura comprometida com a realidade social e com a comunicação com o leitor nos anos 1950, quando, após ser removido da função de vice-cônsul em Londres, permaneceu no Brasil para responder a inquérito, acusado de subversão.
