Resumo: This article aims to ponder over issues concerning scientific policies related to Letters and Linguistics as a field of study in Brazil. It covers topics such as the importance of diversity of know-how in the production of knowledge; the exclusion of humanity issues in the public funding policy; as well as the current public funding agencies assessment system which stimulates a high production of publications.
