This aim of this article is to present the partial results of the research project entitled Translation process and cultural marks study of Au Pays de l'or noir's travel report, which used, as research methods, the study of the cultural markers/ ICEs and the translation strategies adopted in one of Paul Walle's travel reports: Au Pays de l’or noir, Para, Amazonas, MatoGrosso, first published in 1909, France. The research was developed from a work's sample, taking into consideration the study of the Portuguese words (Culture-Specific Items) connected to the Ecological and Social Culture's fields (NEWMARK, 1992), in the french work, and the translation strategy of the reality into language adopted (LAPLANTINE, 1996) by the author. The theoretical and methodological basis we used to describe the cultural markers were the texts of Newmark, (1992), Franco Aixelá (2013), Laplantine (1996) and Ferreira (2014).
