Resumo: This article proposes an analysis of the short story “Preciosidade”, by Clarice Lispector, which is part of the short story collection Laços de Família (1960). Supported by the essay Le scarpe rotte, by Natalia Ginzburg, and one of the chapters in L'amica geniale, by Elena Ferrante, such interpretation focuses on the recurrence of shoes as images of transition and mediation between the private and the external. In Lispector's story, they may be perceived as the necessary and painful displacement of one's home as the only reference of authority, just as the burden of responsibility that comes along with freedom.
