“Exotic Alliances”: the integration of Brazil with Latin America from the perspective of O Globo

Resumo: The aim of this paper is to analyze the speech of the newspaper O Globo about the alliances built by Brazilian foreign policy in the governments of the Workers' Party (PT). Our argument is that when talking about this, the newspaper demonstrated the defense of a certain model of development and insertion in the global order in reaction to political, economic and social changes that occurred in Latin America in the first two decades of the 2000s, from the movement “left turn”. This movement enabled an identity crisis to run into the premise that the region would have a natural commitment to a Western model of development.

Nuestro argumento es que, al hablar de esto, el periódico demostró la defensa de un determinado modelo de desarrollo e inserción en el orden global en reacción a los cambios políticos, económicos y sociales que ocurrieron en América Latina en las primeras dos décadas de la década de 2000, del movimiento "Giro a la izquierda". Este movimiento permitió que una crisis de identidad se topara con la premisa de que la región tendría un compromiso natural con un modelo occidental de desarrollo.O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar o discurso do jornal O Globo sobre as alianças construídas pela política externa brasileira nos governos do Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT). Nosso argumento é que ao falar sobre isso o jornal demonstrou a defesa de um determinado modelo de desenvolvimento e de inserção na ordem global em reação a mudanças políticas, econômicas e sociais ocorridas na América Latina nas duas primeiras décadas dos anos 2000, a partir do movimento de “virada à esquerda”.
