Resumo: This article aims to discuss the relationship between tourism and sustainable development. For this, start with a presentation on the history of the development concept, which gradually abandons a economistic perspective to incorporate, from theoretical elaborations produced in the UN plan, the issues of sustainability and human rights. We discuss the prospects for development of Amartya Sen and Ignacy Sachs. Then the article focuses on the issue of sustainable tourism, discussing the relations between tourism and sustainability from the theoretical and methodological approach proposed by Sachs and Sen. Finally, discuss the theme of social tourism, focusing attention on Brazilian social tourism program “Travel More Golden Age”.

Para ello, comenzará con una presentación sobre la historia del concepto de desarrollo, que poco a poco abandona su ponto de vista estrictamente economicista para incorporar, a partir de elaboraciones teóricas producidas en el plan de la ONU, las cuestiones de la sustentabilidad y los derechos humanos. Se discuten las perspectivas de desarrollo de Amartya Sen y Ignacy Sachs. A continuación, el artículo se centra en el tema del turismo sostenible, analizando la relación entre el turismo y la sostenibilidad del enfoque teórico y metodológico propuesto por Sachs y Sen. Finalmente, discutirá el tema del turismo social, centrando la atención en el programa de turismo social brasileño “Viaja Más Edad de Oro”.Este artigo tem como objetivo a discussão da relação entre turismo e desenvolvimento sustentável. Para isto, inicia com uma apresentação sobre a evolução histórica do conceito de desenvolvimento, que progressivamente abandona a sua perspectiva estritamente economicista para incorporar, a partir de elaborações teóricas produzidas no plano da ONU, as temáticas da sustentabilidade e dos direitos humanos. Serão discutidas as perspectivas de desenvolvimento de Amartya Sen e de Ignacy Sachs. Em seguida, o artigo foca-se na questão do turismo sustentável, discutindo a relação entre turismo e sustentabilidade a partir do enfoque teórico-metodológico proposto por Sachs e Sen.
