Between the Golden Age of Antiquity and the Criminalization of Politics in Contemporary Brazil: Historical Consciousness, School Knowledge and Social Representations

Resumo: This article investigates the historicallearning of high school students based onthe concept of historical consciousnessand its possible integration with the theoryof social representations. Qualitativeresearch was carried out based on theanalysis of data collected through student’sprevious ideas and student responsesto a set of exercises with informationfrom different historical sourcesand periods (Antiquity and Present). Wecarried out a survey at a public schoolunit in the metropolitan region of SaoPaulo in order to understand how thepolitical dimension is learned by studentswhen they get in contact with thehistory of the ancient Romans. We cometo the conclusion that student’s historicallearning results from the relationship betweenschool curriculum, perception oftemporality and lived reality.

Por meio da coleta de ideias préviase um exercício de entrecruzamentode fontes de épocas diversas (Antiguidadee Tempo Presente), investigamos odesenvolvimento do pensamento históricode estudantes em uma escola públicada região do ABC paulista.
