Resumo: The article discusses the challenges ofteaching history within the ongoing contextof curriculum reforms in New Zealand.Specifically, I discuss my learningsand challenges, as a Brazilian-born lecturerat a New Zealand public university, toimplement a pioneering history curriculumin the country. In the first part, I presenta brief history of history teaching contextsin New Zealand. I focus on thecurrent process of refreshing the nationalNew Zealand curriculum, which, amongsignificant changes, draws on a pioneeringprinciple entitled mana ōrite mō temātauranga, which intends to give epistemologicalequity between indigenous andWestern knowledge traditions. In the secondpart, I detail and reflect on my ownclassroom initiatives to rethink “what”and “how” to teach history to future NewZealand history teachers amidst the currentdecolonizing context of political andepistemological changes.

Na primeira parte, apresento um breve histórico dos contextos de ensino de história na Nova Zelândia, com foco no atual de processo reformulação do atual currículo national neozelandês o qual, entre tantas mudanças significativas, se inspira em um princípio pioneiro intitulado mana ōrite mō te mātauranga, que pretende dar equidade epistemológica entre tradições de conhecimento indígenas e ocidentais.
