Resumo: The World Health Organization points out that 80% of humanity does not have access to primary health care, leading lots of people to use medicinal plants to treat various diseases. Nevertheless, popular knowledge is transferred and shared by empirical and unregistered ways. Hence, the aims of this research were to recover and register the traditional popular knowledge about medicinal plants among the servers of Instituto Federal Sul de Minas Campus Muzambinho (IFSULDEMINAS), Brazil. One hundred employees of IFSULDEMINAS were interviewed through a questionnaire related to the use of medicinal plants. The most cited species were Menta x villosa Huds (33%), Cymbopogon citratus (DC), Stapf (25%) and Camomila (Matricaria chamomilla) (15%). According to the results, 71% of them received this knowledge from parents and grandparents and 81% of the interviewed reported to ignore the difference between medicinal and toxic plants. This study contributes to the rescue of traditional popular knowledge of medicinal plants and their registration, avoiding the extinction of this knowledge and providing a diffusion of the correct knowledge regarding the preparation and rational use of the medicinal plants.
