The Young Generation in the Library of Salim Miguel and Eglê Malheiros

Revista Sul was a modernist magazine published in Florianopolis, between 1948 and1957. It had a section named Received with Thanksgiving, which listed books, which had been sent to Postbox 384. These books had different faiths among the members of the South, becoming part of private libraries, such as the couple Salim Miguel and Eglê Malheiros, a library curated by the State University of Santa Catarina. This collection is the subject of this paper, in that we ask about the presence of the Brazilian literature after 1945. In addition, it has books sent by new writers of peripheral cities In process of modernizing, and acorrespondence between these new writers and clippings with criticisms of their books. This library shows a literary scene that was developing when the national press was not yet centralized, enabling the emergence of regional editorial labels. The documents show also the mechanisms toward the legitimation of writers who established themselves in the peripheries, a process that differs from what became known as the 1945-generation and what we call theyoung generation.
