“LA ATENTA CARTA”: THE EPISTOLAR EXCHANGE BETWEEN LOURENÇO FILHO AND JAIME TORRES BODET IN THE BRAZIL-MEXICO SPACE (1940-1950)

This text aims to understand the epistolary exchange between Manoel Bergstrom Lourenço Filho and Jaime Torres Bodet, respectively, in Brazil and Mexico, between the 1940s and 1950s. The gateway to the development of this text were the letters written by Lourenço Filho, as the result of two trips to Mexico, inserted in a movement of ideas and subjects (politicians, educators and intellectuals) in conferences, congresses, meetings, committees, forms and documents guiding educational policies, carried out by the United Nations for Education, Science and Culture (Unesco) and by the Regional Center for Fundamental Education for Latin America (Crefal). Correspondence sources found in the Center for Research and Documentation of Contemporary History of Brazil (CPDOC) and in the “Lucas Ortiz” Library of the Information, Research and Culture Center (Cediic) of Crefal are taken as sources. Finally, it can be concluded that the epistolary exchange between these men constituted the movement in favor of educational policies, carried out in their respective countries by Unesco, which resulted in the realization of trips and, consequently, in a vast epistolary production.
