Resumo: Objective: to identify the main acute and chronic consequences of childhood food allergy. Data source: This is an integrative literature review produced in sequential steps, which selected 20 articles. It was carried out from the search of scientific studies published on the topic in the platforms: Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SciELO) and PubMed, in the month of October 2022. The articles were searched using the Health Science Descriptors (DeCS/MeSH) in Portuguese and English: food hypersensitivity, child, pediatrics, combining them with the Boolean operator "AND". Data Synthesis: The mechanisms of food intolerance, allergies related to early food introduction, main complications and impacts of food allergies in children, and induction of tolerance to adequate diet were discussed. Conclusion: It is concluded that the main acute and chronic consequences of childhood food allergy are diverse, including cutaneous, gastrointestinal tract and even systemic reactions. It is important to emphasize the need for the continuity of public policies for exclusive breastfeeding, since the lack of this represents the main triggering factor for childhood food allergies. Conclusion: We conclude that the main acute and chronic consequences of childhood food allergy are diverse, including cutaneous, gastrointestinal tract, and even systemic reactions. It is important to emphasize the need for the continuity of public policies for exclusive breastfeeding, since the lack of this represents the main triggering factor for childhood food allergies.
