Resumo: | Introduction: The Military Pentathlon (MP) is a unique modality presenting specific characteristics of military occupation. Identifying which physical profile is associated to better performance could help the athletes’ selection process and the identification of important variables to follow up observing the training efficacy. Objective: To investigate the existence of an association between anthropometric parameters and sports performance of elite male MP athletes of the Brazilian Army. Methods: Methods: Five athletes from the Brazilian Army's male PMil team participated in the research. The body composition components were calculated: fat percentage (% F), fat mass (MG) and fat free mass (MLG). The best results of official competitions (2017) were considered in Clusters analysis and Spearman's correlation test. Results: There was a very strong positive correlation between MLG and the performance of the running race across the field (8km) (r = 0.90, p = 0.04). There was no significant correlation with the other events in the sport (shooting, utility swimming track, military pentathlon track and throwing). Conclusion: The positive and very strong correlation between MLG and performance in running indicates the outstanding relevance of this body component for the high-performance military pentathletes’ performance. |
