Resumo: | The objective of this study is to assess the results of the Morbid Obesity Program, at the Galeao Air Force Hospital. 46 patients were consulted and the quality of life of the patients already operated and those waiting to undergo surgery was analized. The nature of object of the evaluation led to the triangulation of methods and techniques of data collection, through quantitative and qualitative approaches. The data was collected through the use of (a) a questionnaire on the Impact of Weight on the Quality of Life (QOL), (b) the focus groups, (c) a survey of medical records of patients from bariatric surgery, to check the frequency of post-operative consultations. The evaluation results show that most patients who underwent bariatric surgery at GAFH is female, married, college-level educated, the average age is 46 years, the post-surgery comorbid diseases decreased and was extinct in some patients and it´s during the first year after surgery that the greatest weight loss occurs. There was a significant improvement in the QOL of patients who underwent surgery compared to patients not operated. The results demonstrate a positive impact on the daily life of patients after weight loss, improving the QOL in the domains of physical function, self-esteem, sexual life, public embarrassment and work, greater independence in daily living activities, functional capacity, and social integration. |
