Resumo: | Prolonged staying in higher education is the condition in which the student requires a period of time longer than the expected in the curriculum matrix for course conclusion. In the Federal University of Espirito Santo, 52.2% of students who should graduate in the periods 2007/2 to 2012/1 were retained. The purposes of this research were identifying factors associated with the retention of students on graduation in classroom aiming to propose institutional actions to fight the problem. The methodology consisted of comparing two groups of students, retained and graduated, by means of a logistic regression model. The results indicated 21 factors involved in the process, of which the most significant were the accumulated coefficient of performance, the number of failures, the ratio applicants/vacancy in the entrance examination, the area of knowledge of the course, the performance in the second stage of the entrance examination and the process of locking the course. |
