An Ethical Approach on Research With Humans in the Editorial Guidelines of Brazilian Journals on Ecology and Environment

The ethical approach in the editorial guidelines of Brazilian scientific journals on Ecology and Environment (base year 2008) listed in the program Qualis-CAPES is evaluated. The theme investigated whether the journals provided information on ethical issues and procedures involved in human experimentation and whether they provide information to the authors on the manner they must assure the editors that ethical procedures had been accomplished in their experiments. The guidelines of 129 journals were evaluated. Results showed that, in general, the contents of the "Instructions to Authors" of the journals evaluated contained little information on ethical issues. In fact, few journals explained to the authors about the fulfillment of ethical procedures in their experiments. Significant improvements are required with regard to the ethical approach of editorial guidelines in Brazilian scientific journals on Ecology and Environment for the publication of investigations executed according to ethical principles.
