Bio-activity of Ethanol Extract From Pachira aquatica aubl. Seeds on Hypothenemus hampei (Ferrari)

Resumo: | Insecticide and repellant activity of the ethanol extract from Pachira aquatica seeds on Hypothenemus hampei was evaluated. Vegetal material was macerated with ethanol 95% for seven days to obtain the crude extract. Solvent was then left to evaporate and the ethanol extract obtained. The extract’s insecticide activity (25 mg/mL-1) was performed by the application on a contaminated surface and by topic application. Repellant activity of the extract was undertaken in healthy coffee fruits. Results were analyzed by ANOVA and by Tukey’s test (p 0.01). Extract had highest insecticide activity when exposed on a contaminated surface (100% death rate in 4 h) in contrast to topic application (62% death rate in 5 h). In the case of repellant activity, the extract inhibited 80% of the insects’ attraction to coffee fruit when compared to 20% of control. Results show that P. aquatica seeds have insecticide and repellant activity on H. hampei. |

Para obtenção do extrato bruto, o material vegetal foi deixado em maceração com etanol 95%, durante sete dias; após isto, o solvente foi evaporado e o extrato etanólico foi obtido. A atividade inseticida do extrato (25 mg/mL-1) foi realizada através da aplicação em superfície contaminada e da aplicação tópica. A atividade repelente do extrato foi realizada em frutos de café sadios. Os resultados obtidos foram analisados através da análise de variância (ANOVA) seguida pelo teste de Tukey (P 0,01). O extrato apresentou maior atividade inseticida quando exposto em superfície contaminada (mortalidade de 100%, em 4 h) em relação à aplicação tópica (mortalidade de 62%, em 5 h). Quanto à atividade repelente, o extrato foi capaz de inibir em 80% a atração dos insetos para os frutos de café quando comparado com 20% do controle.
