Resumo: Cephalalgia, any pain in the cephalic segment, may be divided into primary cephalalgia when pain is not the symptom of another pathology, and secondary when pain originates from such a change. Tensional cephalalgia is one of the commonest types of primary cephalalgia. The temporal, frontal and supra-orbital regions are among the most common areas in which pain is installed. Since it is frequently associated with myofascial pain, triggered within the region of the masticatory and/or cervical muscles, the surgeon dentist is entitled to work out the differential diagnosis and consequent application of treatment procedures. The latter includes pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments coupled to pain prevention and abortive measures. The physiopathology and clinical characteristics of tensional cephalalgia, episodic and casual cephalalgia, and mixed cephalalgia are discussed. The latter is a type of cephalalgia in which the patient presents the symptoms of migraine and tensional cephalalgia together. Therapeutic methods, such as counseling, changes in behavior, physiotherapy, medicine, occlusive plaques and trigger point injections are analyzed.

Universidade Cesumar - UniCesumar2008-09-30info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.unicesumar.edu.br/index.php/saudpesq/article/view/813Saúde e Pesquisa; Vol 1 No 2 (2008): maio/ago.; 185-191Saúde e Pesquisa; v. 1 n. 2 (2008): maio/ago.; 185-1912176-9206reponame:Saúde e Pesquisa (Online)instname:Cesumar Diretoria de Pesquisainstacron:CESUMARporhttps://periodicos.unicesumar.edu.br/index.php/saudpesq/article/view/813/616Varjão, Fabiana MansurJorge, Janaina HabibNepelenbroek, Karin HermanaAlencar Júnior, Francisco Guedes Pereira deinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2022-05-23T18:13:02Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/813Revistahttps://periodicos.unicesumar.edu.br/index.php/saudpesqPUBhttps://periodicos.unicesumar.edu.br/index.php/saudpesq/oainaep@cesumar.br2176-92061983-1870opendoar:2022-05-23T18:13:02Saúde e Pesquisa (Online) - Cesumar Diretoria de Pesquisafalse
