Resumo: Ants are endowed with great mobility and adaptation to urban environments. Ants may be bacteria-carriers when they lodge in the hospital milieu. Since bacteria are the main microorganisms in hospital infections, current analysis evaluates the sensitiveness profile of bacteria in ants in a hospital in the north-western region of the state of Paraná, Brazil. Antibiogram was performed by the diffusion method in agar with paper discs with antibiotics. Bacteria strains were analyzed by measuring the growth inhibition halos of microorganisms following protocols by Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). Results showed that all bacterial strains were multi-resistant to distinct antimicrobial products. Aztreonam and ampicillin were the least efficacious antibiotics in vitro for enterobacteria, followed by penicillin and erythromycin for gram-positive cocci. The need to eradicate insects from the hospital milieu is evident, coupled to design an adequate therapeutic protocol of antibioticotherapy which is one of the factors that contributes towards the prevention of the development of drug resistance. The risk of hospital infection by resistant bacteria will consequently decrease.

The risk of hospital infection by resistant bacteria will consequently decrease.
