Resumo: | The evaluation of nutritional status in patients with chronic renal failure on hemodialysis is of great importance to a clinic conduct and provide adequate nutrition in order to reduce the high mortality and morbidity observed in this population. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the nutritional status and consumed diet, to promote nutritional education on undergoing hemodialysis patients. It was evaluated adult patients in outpatient hemodialysis. The anthropometric variables analyzed were: body mass index (IMC), categorized according to the World Health Organization (WHO, 1997), and arm muscle circumference (CMB), classified according to criteria proposed by Frisancho (1990). It was evaluated 42 patients, between 23 and 64 years old (mean 47 years) of both sexes (12F/30M). The assessment of nutritional status by IMC indicated that 66.66% of female patients and 70% of males were in eutrophication, however the classification of the CMB, 45.23% of the patients were in malnutrition. In the quantitative study of dietary intake, there was a protein and calorie intake of 24.98 kcal/kg and 1.17g/kg respectively, 51% carbohydrates and 29% of lipids, the total caloric content of the diet. It is concluded that this work is consistent with the literature that emphasizes that the malnutrition is a constant finding in undergoing hemodialysis patients, according to the decrease of food intake. A proper nutritional guidance can help improve the life quality of these patients. |
