Resumo: Current analysis compares the impact of three different physical training intensities on risk factors which are a predisposition to cardiovascular diseases in sedentary women. The sample comprised 21 pre-menopause women, aged between 30 and 50 years, randomly distributed into three intervention groups. The experiment involved treadmill exercises, equivalent to the energy release of 300 kcal/session at speeds 4, 5 and 6 km/h, for 4 sessions a week, during 12 weeks. Risk factors predisposing to cardiovascular diseases involved in the study were body mass index, blood pressure at rest and plasmatic lipid-lipoprotein concentrations. After 12 weeks of intervention the female group that treadmilled at intensities 4 and 5 km/h did not show any significant changes in any of the variables analyzed; on the other hand, the female group that treadmilled at an intensity of 6 km/h showed a statistically significant decrease in body mass and in plasmatic lipid-lipoprotein concentrations. Results show that treadmilling at an intensity of 6 km/h is more efficient for favorable alterations in cardiovascular risk profile. Current investigation shows the efficiency of a moderate intensity treadmill program for cardiovascular health.
