Resumo: | Current research, developed at the Laboratory of Teaching, Research and Extension in Measurements and Evaluation of the School of Physical Education, analyzed the effect of a program in resisted physical exercises in bone mineral density in post-menopause females suffering from osteopenia or osteoporosis. Sample in current experimental study comprised 20 females from a community in Pelotas RS Brazil, diagnosed with osteopenia or osteoporosis within the post-menopause clinical condition. Physical training of resisted exercises was undertaken during 12 months with three weekly one-hour sessions. The first five minutes were dedicated to lengthening and warming of articulations; 50 minutes were devoted to resisted exercises on the machines and another five minutes for lengthening and muscular relaxing; loads varied between 60 and 85% of 1RM. Results showed that there was a statistically significant 25% decrease in the spinal column bone’s mineral density between pre- and post-treatment (t=5.888; p=0.000) and a statistically significant 77% decrease in the femur bone’s mineral density between the pre- and post-treatment period (t=8.163; p=0.000). Significant improvements occurred in the bone’s mineral density of post-menopause females with regard to osteopenia or osteoporosis and with regard to increase in physical ability components for health, such as flexibility, fat percentage and strength, which improve autonomy in day-to-day activities. |

Significant improvements occurred in the bone’s mineral density of post-menopause females with regard to osteopenia or osteoporosis and with regard to increase in physical ability components for health, such as flexibility, fat percentage and strength, which improve autonomy in day-to-day activities.
