Resumo: Teeth wear is an important dentistry issue in populations at the start of the century and may turn to be one of its greatest concerns. Scanty knowledge exists on the epidemiological of teeth wear since most literature deals with the etiology of wear without quantifying epidemiological extension. Current research identifies the prevalence and severity of teeth wear in five-year-old children in the kindergartens of the municipality of Sarandi PR Brazil and verifies associations with gender and regions under analysis. A transversal analysis was undertaken comprising a randomized sample of children (n=291) enrolled in these educational centers. Diagnosis criteria of dental wear contained in the method by Hugoson et al. (1988) was employed for data collection. Parents’ term of consent was taken and a clinical report made for each examination. Prevalence of teeth wear was 95.2%, with a negative result of only 4.8%. Canines and central incisive teeth were the most affected by different types of wear (attrition, erosion and abrasion). Approximately 85% of the right upper canines showed initial attrition and only 12% of left lower incisive teeth had severe abrasion. High prevalence in teeth wear is a fact in the population investigated, although its severity is not highly significant.
