Resumo: | Current analysis investigates data of a field research on the effects of respiratory gymnastics associated to swimming to improve lung functions in 11-year-old female children with bronchial asthma. Children had an average weight of 47 kg ± 12.49 and an average height of 1.54 m ± 5.68. Two groups, treatment and control, were formed, although both underwent the spirometry test. Whereas the treatment group underwent respiratory gymnastic and swimming, the control one was restricted to swimming. Schedule consisted of three month training, twice a week, with 30-minute sessions. Final lung function tests showed changes in CVF, VEF1 and PFE variables in both groups. The treatment group had a significant improvement (p < 0.05). Results show better symptomatic conditions with a decrease in the number of crisis intensities. They also indicated that a program with at least three months of respiratory gymnastics associated to swimming would improve lung functions in asthmatic children. |
