Resumo: Underground water is not only an economical asset but is a highly relevant supply source for human consumption. Food may be contaminated by water directly or indirectly. In fact, water may be frequently the cause of food toxic infection. The above justifies concern with production and consumption. Current analysis on a public health issue deals with a survey on water and food consumption and studies the relationship between these habits and the microbiological quality of consumed food and the emergence of illnesses in Santa Helena PR Brazil. Results show that the quality of water and food consumed by the population does not merely need special care, but the correct techniques in hygiene and water and food treatment should be propagated.

Os alimentos obtidos por via direta ou indireta também podem ser contaminados e são frequentemente responsabilizados por surtos de toxinfeção alimentar, o que justifica a preocupação com suas formas de produção e consumo. Este trabalho, com base na importância do tema para a saúde publica, objetivou realizar um levantamento de hábito de consumo de água e alimentos e estudar a correlação desses hábitos e da qualidade microbiológica dos alimentos consumidos com o aparecimento de doenças no município de Santa Helena - PR.
