Resumo: The relationship between halitosis and malocclusion in children is provided by an observational cross transversal analysis with 136 subjects. Malocclusion was evaluated according to Angle classification in complete deciduous dentition by occlusion alterations. Mouth halitosis measurements were performed with portable Breath Checker™, according to the following classification: 1 = odorless; 2 = slight odor; 3 = average odor; 4 = strong odor; 5 = very strong odor. Chi square test was performed, whereas the analysis of variance (ANOVA) was undertaken for mean comparison. Student’s t test at 5% significant level was performed. Further, 50.7% of the subjects were female and a clinical exam showed that 30.9% of subjects had malocclusion. Positive halitosis occurred in 35.3%, with greater prevalence in females (p=0.01). No statistically significant association occurred between malocclusion and gender (p=0.66) and between malocclusion and halitosis (p=0.18). Malocclusion may not be related to halitosis in the sample analyzed. However, the importance of observational studies in children should be enhanced so that the causes of halitosis may be revealed.

However, the importance of observational studies in children should be enhanced so that the causes of halitosis may be revealed. Universidade Cesumar - UniCesumar2012-09-11info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionAvaliado por Paresestudo observacional; corte transversalapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.unicesumar.edu.br/index.php/saudpesq/article/view/2421Saúde e Pesquisa; Vol 5 No 3 (2012): set./dez.Saúde e Pesquisa; v. 5 n. 3 (2012): set./dez.2176-9206reponame:Saúde e Pesquisa (Online)instname:Cesumar Diretoria de Pesquisainstacron:CESUMARporhttps://periodicos.unicesumar.edu.br/index.php/saudpesq/article/view/2421/1799Motta, Lara JansiskiPoletti, Valdelânia JorgeSiqueira, Angela dos SantosAlfaya, Thays AlmeidaGuedes, Carolina CardosoBussadori, Sandra Kalilinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2020-09-04T15:56:25Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/2421Revistahttps://periodicos.unicesumar.edu.br/index.php/saudpesqPUBhttps://periodicos.unicesumar.edu.br/index.php/saudpesq/oainaep@cesumar.br2176-92061983-1870opendoar:2020-09-04T15:56:25Saúde e Pesquisa (Online) - Cesumar Diretoria de Pesquisafalse
