Resumo: | Since bariatric surgery is a fast and efficient intervention in the treatment of obesity, it is currently not merely a common event but a highly effective measure in the treatment of morbid obesity. However, post-surgery complications, such as eating disorders, may occur in patients who undergo bariatric surgery. Current research investigates the prevalence of eating disorders (anorexia and nervous bulimia) in patients submitted to bariatric surgery after a year or more. Thirty patients, who underwent bariatric surgery in a bariatric surgery clinic in Maringá PR Brazil, filled two types of questionnaire, namely, EAT - Attitudes Food Test and BITE - Edinburgh Bulimic Research Test. Twenty-six out of the 30 patients had nervous anorexia profile, or rather, 87% belong to the risk group. Contrastingly, 3.33% manifested compulsive behavior for food with great possibility of developing bulimia. Eating disorders may be found in patients who undergo bariatric surgery since modifications in eating behavior which interfere with the patient's psychology may occur. |
