Resumo: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory and demyelinating disease of the central nervous system, leading to functional and social disabilities and worsening of the quality of life of these individuals. The aim of this study was to verify the quality of life and degree of functional impairment of MS patients. This is a cross-sectional and descriptive study. The World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL - BREF) was used to evaluate quality of life and the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) for the evaluation of disabilities. Thirty four individuals with MS were evaluated, with a mean age of 41.14 years, predominantly female (61.76%). Of this sample, 76.47% had recurrent and recurrent clinical forms and 17.65% had a secondary progressive form; the mean EDSS was 2.95. It is concluded that in this group studied there are points of correlation between quality of life and the incapacities resulting from the disease.

; 271-277Saúde e Pesquisa; v. 14 n. 2 (2021): abr./jun. ; 271-2772176-9206reponame:Saúde e Pesquisa (Online)instname:Cesumar Diretoria de Pesquisainstacron:CESUMARporenghttps://periodicos.unicesumar.edu.br/index.php/saudpesq/article/view/7654/6593https://periodicos.unicesumar.edu.br/index.php/saudpesq/article/view/7654/6594Rosa, Rodrigo César Espindula, Ana PaulaCardoso, Fabrízio Antônio Gomide info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2021-08-16T17:33:29Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/7654Revistahttps://periodicos.unicesumar.edu.br/index.php/saudpesqPUBhttps://periodicos.unicesumar.edu.br/index.php/saudpesq/oainaep@cesumar.br2176-92061983-1870opendoar:2021-08-16T17:33:29Saúde e Pesquisa (Online) - Cesumar Diretoria de Pesquisafalse
