Resumo: Introduction: We know that aging is a phenomenon that affects all human beings and that physical activity is a great benefit for a stable life, physical activity has many health benefits and for day to day while maintaining ease of move around and have a healthy life, preventing common diseases in the aging process. Objective: The objective of this study was to analyze the importance of exercise for seniors, between practitioners and non-practitioners. Sample: This study is characterized as a cross of an exploratory nature, with a sample of 30 elderly, 15 practitioners and 15 non-physically active, all over 65 years. Material and Methods: the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) short version was applied, the IPAQ was proposed by the International Group for Consensus on measures of physical activity, constituted under the auspices of the World Health Organization. Results: Based on the level of physical activity each group was observed that the elderly practitioners of regular exercise exhibited a higher level of physical activity. In relation to sedentary behavior, there was no significant difference between the groups during the time sitting on a week day and weekend. Conclusions: In the study it was revealed that physically active older people have a better quality of life and more active in both physical activity and the daily tasks, to physically inactive elderly shows that do not exercise even daily activities, are very sedentary and sitting over time the two groups are almost the same time sitting, it is already considered inactive.

Objetivo: O objetivo desse estudo foi analisar o nível de atividade física entre idosos praticantes e não praticantes. Amostra: Esse estudo caracteriza-se como transversal de cunho exploratório, com a amostra de 30 idosos, sendo 15 praticantes e 15 não praticantes de atividade física, todos acima de 65 anos. Material e Métodos: Foi aplicado o Questionário Internacional de Atividade Física (IPAQ) versão curta, o IPAQ foi proposto pelo Grupo Internacional para Consenso em Medidas da Atividade Física, constituído sob a chancela da Organização Mundial da Saúde. Resultados: Com base no nível de atividade física de cada grupo foi possível perceber que os idosos praticantes de exercícios físicos regulares exibiram um maior nível de atividade física. Em relação ao comportamento sedentário, não houve diferença significativa entre os grupos durante o tempo sentado em um dia de semana e fim de semana.
