Resumo: | Introduction: The search for healthier cities and citizens has been contributing to the strengthening of public policies for the valorization of bicycle as a means of transportation in different countries and states, bringing benefits to the promotion of health, and thus can bring innumerable benefits, Reducing traffic accidents and pollution, improving the quality of life of individuals and promoting health. Objective: To analyze cycling as a means of transportation and public health offered with it, making it possible to discuss the practice of cycling as a healthy physical activity. Materials and methods: Twenty-two adults of both sexes, aged 20 to 55 years, were evaluated. The study was characterized as transversal, with a comparative quantitative sample, where the questionnaire adapted from Franco (2011) was applied. All analyzes were performed in the statistical software Stata® Standard Edition, version 13.0 (StataCorp LP, United States) for Microsoft® Windows ™. Results: The results show that the concern with this theme is recent, even in the developing countries. The main themes addressed by the researchers were the interest in cycling, the frequency of cycling in citizens' paths, and the effects of cycling on health. It was reported that the majority of the interviewees are practicing regular physical activity (90.9%) and the minority (9.1%) are not active. Regarding the research, it was found that 59.1% of the interviewees use cars as a means of transportation and 40.9% use bicycles and other means of transport for locomotion. Final considerations: It is concluded that the pattern of the use of the bicycle as a means of transportation Occurs in a very heterogeneous way, but with potential greater impacts in developing countries, where it is urgent to include this topic in the research agendas on the relationship between the promotion of active transport in health promotion and traffic safety. |

Submitted by Gisely Teixeira (gisely.teixeira@uniceub.br) on 2017-05-03T17:55:40Z No. of bitstreams: 1 21237501.pdf: 657093 bytes, checksum: 82bddb0fec905c423684137cd5629d37 (MD5)Approved for entry into archive by Camila Loscha (camila.loscha@uniceub.br) on 2017-05-23T19:30:14Z (GMT) No. of bitstreams: 1 21237501.pdf: 657093 bytes, checksum: 82bddb0fec905c423684137cd5629d37 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2017-05-23T19:30:14Z (GMT).
