STUDY OF SEED DENSITY AND LINE SPACING ON THE YIELD OF ‘VIGNA UNGUICULATA’ BEAN IN THE SEMI-ARID REGIÓN

The objective of this work was to study three spacings and three plant densities ranging from 20 to 120 thousand plants per hectare, on yield and its major components in the development of two cultivars of Vigna unguiculata bean. The experiment was conducted in the experimental field of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Pernambuco - Campus Belo Jardim (IFPE). The experimental delineation was in randomized blocks in factorial scheme 3 x 3 x 2 x 8 with three repetitions, three row spacings (1.00 m x 0.75 m x 0.50 m), three planting densities (2, 4 and 6 linear-1 plants m), two cultivars (IPA 207 and ‘BR Gurguéia’) and 8 sampling. The experimental plots were composed of 6, 8, and 12 lines of 5 meters long each, and the useful area formed by the two center lines, rejecting 0.5 m at both ends of each line. the number of seeds per pod was not affected by different arrangements of plants and the increase in the spacing of vigna bean plant promotes significant reductions in the number of pods per plant and in the grain production. The cultivar IPA-207 showed higher grain yield than ‘BR Gurguéia’ in different spacings.
