The present text seeks to reflect on the studies and intersections between child’s play and the alterity of children in rural preschool education. It aims to build arguments that clarify the processes of strengthening the identity of rural children and their ways of (re)existing in the contexts and social/lifestyles of/on the countryside. To this end, the text discusses the processes of human subjectivity based on the dialectics of objectivity-subjectivity, alterity, and identity. It also addresses the theme of child’s play as an emancipatory and liberating tool in children’s development. Finally, the article reaffirms the importance of considering rural children as “beings of struggle,” a process that is formed in the relations with their rural family and the culture and struggles of the countryside. As “beings of struggle,” attention must be drawn to processes such as autonomy, protagonism, and participation, which are fundamental for child’s play to strengthen the alterity of rural children.
