Resumo: | Staphylococcus aureus is the most important human pathogen among staphylococci causing severe infections from communitarian and hospital origin. They are etiological agents of several diseases including skin infections as folliculitis, furuncle and carbunculum-like infections as well as osteomyelitis, endocarditis, pneumonia, among others. S. aureusremains as the most important pathogen, being responsible for more than 30% of hospital infections cases. In the health units, the reservoirs are represented by medical articles, colonized patients, employees and the environment. The hospital diseases represent a serious problem of public health and its best knowledge, prevention and control constitute a challenge to beopposed. Within this perspective we performed the characterization of isolates from non-critical medical articles through some biochemical tests and the amplification of thespacers between tRNA genes - tDNA-PCR. According to the coagulase and catalase production, it was possible to characterized 14 isolates as S. aureusstrains, those were confirmed through t-DNA PCR.The generated results prove the presence of S. aureusin non-critical articles (stethoscope, sphygmomanometer, doppler sonar), pointing to failures in their cleaning and disinfection processes. We can conclude that the utilization of contaminated equipments, without adequate precautions, can be responsible for the dissemination of bacteria in hospital environment, mainly by S. aureus. |

We can conclude that the utilization of contaminated equipments, without adequate precautions, can be responsible for the dissemination of bacteria in hospital environment, mainly by S. aureus.
