Resumo: This work presents a comprehensive analysis of what was the Brazilian holocaust: the genocide that killed 60 thousand citizens during the 20th century, which took place in the city of Barbacena, in the State of Minas Gerais. The objective is to explain why patients had their rights violated, since the State guaranteed them the right to protection of life. The inmates lived in an inhumane situation, being forced to remain in a deplorable environment and conditioned to the torture sessions. The holocaust was an attempt to wash society, excluding from it, those who did not please the government at the time, a fact similar to what happened in Germany, during the Adolf Hitler government. It was found that, in view of the catastrophic scenario, there was no punishment for those responsible and the situation in Barbacena's asylum only improved in the 1980’s, after the psychiatric reform.

O objetivo é explicar o porquê pacientes tiveram seus direitos violados, visto que, o Estado assegurava a eles o direito a proteção à vida. Os internados viveram em situação desumana, sendo obrigados a permanecerem em um ambiente deplorável e condicionados às sessões de torturas. O holocausto foi uma tentativa de fazer uma lavagem na sociedade, excluindo desta, aqueles que não agradavam o governo na época, fato similar ao ocorrido na Alemanha, durante o governo de Adolf Hitler.
