Resumo: Biodegradable waste, such as animal biomass, is presented as a renewable energy source, and bioenergy production in the form of heat and electricity is one of the options for reducing energy scarcity with minimal environmental impacts. However, the use of clean energies, maximization of business competitiveness, change of consumer mentality in relation to energy consumption are also obstacles to be faced in order to happen the process of transition from conventional energy to the energies generated from other sources , such as biogas produced from animal biomass generated on the rural farms of pig and cattle producers. The thesis that was proposed for this work was that, the innovative practices of biogas production from animal wastes are directed towards the socio-technical transition in renewable energies. The objective of this research was to understand how innovative practices are developed for the sociotechnical transition of biogas production in rural properties located in the interior of the State of Paraná. The fundamental aspects of the theories underlying the research were: the Sociotechnical Theory and Practical Theory, which allowed the elucidation of the attributions provided in the legal framework and in the effective actions in the researched field, in the interior of Paraná and in the region of Milan, Italy. The qualitative methodology was applied and, the technique to analyze the content of the data collected from the interviews with managers of the agencies that represent the activity and with the producers associated with the Cooperativa Frisia who had biodigesters installed in their properties. The empirical findings revealed that biogas production practices are related to large and complex activities and systems, such as electric power systems, fertilizer systems and fuel systems, among others that may arise during the development of the segment. The practices characterized in the biogas production activity, influence changes in the daily practices of the producers and impact on the development of innovations that affect the socio-technical systems, allowing the emergence of new business ideas that come to contemplate the niche of the energy generation, not yet used by the producers surveyed. The practices identified in the present study were: Incentive Practice; Practice of viable credits; Energy Production Practice; Energy Distribution Practice; Environmental Preservation Practice; Trading Practice of Carbon Credits; Own Consumption Practice; Funding Practice; Biogas Production Practice; Learning Practice. The present thesis has demonstrated the lack of definition of the current biogas production system and, thus, is consistent with the emergence of studies in this segment, which will use the proposed approach: the theory of practices and the sociotechnical theory.
