Infecções sexualmente transmissíveis em adolescentes e adultos jovens: uma revisão narrativa.

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are caused by viruses or bacteria and can be transmitted from an infected person to another person in a variety of ways, including oral, vaginal and anal contact. Young people between the ages of 15 and 19 are at risk. Objective: To know and describe the related factors and the situation of sexually transmitted infections among adolescents and young adults. Methods: A narrative literature review was carried out, using the health research portals: Virtual Health Library (BVS) and National Library of Medicine (Pubmed/Medline). The articles were selected from January to May 2022, and the following inclusion criteria were adopted: publications from 2017 to 2022, available in full and free of charge. Literature review articles, theses, books, congress and conference proceedings were excluded. Results: Initially, 7,723 articles were pre-selected, which after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria and reading, 15 articles were chosen to explore the findings. Final considerations: Sexually transmitted infections are still considered a public health problem, mainly due to the number of adolescents and young adults affected. This study showed that social classes with lower purchasing power and less social incentive in education, even in different regions or less developed countries, are the most vulnerable to these STIs. Blacks, the poor, the homeless and people living in humble regions or countries are the most affected. In addition, as a general rule, the cause is the lack of knowledge about transmission, among them transmission through oral sex.
