The World Health Organization (WHO) defines the medical school's social responsibility as its obligation to direct its education, research and service activities to meet the priority health needs of the community, region or nation where it has the mandate to serve. In order to understand how a medical school exercises this social responsibility, this research aimed to understand the responsibility and actions of the medical course at Unipê regarding the identification of the health needs of the community in its surroundings - the city of João Pessoa - and the construction of partnerships with the social actors in this sector, from the perspective of the Global Consensus on Social Responsibility of Medical Schools. It was carried out with the use of qualitative methodology, exploratory and documentary, throughout the months of august, september and october 2020, in João Pessoa, more specifically in Unipê, hospitals and associated services; with a sample of 21 people, including managers, workers and users of the services, in addition to teachers of the course. Data collection took place through a semistructured interview and analysis of documents provided by the course coordinators, the interviews being recorded and later transcribed for analysis, which took place from a hermeneutic perspective. It was perceived through the critical reading of the Pedagogical Project of the Course and the analysis of the participants' perception that the medicine course at Unipê has elements that bring it closer to the community, having its recognition, however, it still has significant shortages and many challenges to be faced overcome in structuring their social responsibility.
