Resumo: Drugs have followed human beings throughout history and for just a century now, drug use has been the target of repression. This article makes a brief analysis of the hygienist movement and its similarities with the War on Drugs. In order to demonstrate how the war on drugs is used as a tool for social hygiene, through a “social cleansing”, where victims of this war are excluded and marginalized. For this, historical aspects of drugs and their relationship with human beings will be presented, some aspects that led to the hygienism and criminalization of drugs and as the example of cracolândia solidifies the attempt at urban cleaning with the blaming of drugs as a source of social problems, when in reality they are just consequences.

O presente artigo faz uma breve análise do movimento higienista e suas semelhanças com a Guerra às Drogas. Com o objetivo de apresentar demonstrar como a guerra às drogas é utilizada como ferramenta de higienismo social, por meio de uma “limpeza social”, onde são excluídas e marginalizadas as vítimas dessa guerra.
