Resumo: | Introduction: Sexuality has always been viewed with prejudice by society, and thus, the treatment of dyspareunia, vaginismus, vulvodynia and other female sexual dysfunctions can be affected by this situation or even by misinformation and lack of accessibility, which directly reflects the quality of life of the woman. Objective: Bibliographical review on physical therapy approach in female sexual dysfunctions: dyspareunia, vaginismus and vulvodynia. Method: A bibliographical review was accomplished, by the reading of the articles’ titles and methods, from the electronic databases Google Scholar, SciELO and PubMed. Articles in Portuguese and/or English, without year restriction, that showed any physical therapy methods of treatment for the three sexual dysfunctions were included. Results: 2476 articles were analyzed, of which 2470 did not fit into the inclusion criteria. Among the six selected articles, three of them discribed treatments for dypareunia, approaching manual therapy, TENS and pelvic floor strenghthening for the most effective methods; one article about vaginismus, approaching the application of Biofeedback and interferencial current, even though the article was not done yet, and, the last two articles described Biofeedback EMG, pelvic floor strenghthening and TENS for vulvodynia treatment. Conclusion: All the mentioned methods, individually, were successful and brought good results in short terms for the participants in the studies, but the physical therapy approch is too wide and can achieve better results, and in long terms, if the methods were associated with each other. |
