Summary: Botulinum toxin is a potent neurotoxin produced by the GRAM positive bacteria, known as Clostridium botulinum, found in an outbreak of botulism that only in the 1990s was it 2 discovered that the expression lines were also eliminated by it and with its great visibility in the year 2000 began to be applied for aesthetic purposes. Among the various applicability of botulinum toxin, facial rejuvenation is the most sought after, focusing on temporary paralysis, being applied to soften existing wrinkles, also preventing the appearance of new facial wrinkles. The aim of this work was to analyze the relevant aspects of the use of botulinum toxin in facial aesthetic treatment and its different mechanisms of action. Therefore, a literature review was carried out through searches in scientific databases, such as Medline, Pubmed, Science Direct, Lilacs, Scirus, Academic Google and Journals. After conducting and analyzing the materials, it was possible to conclude that Botulinum Toxin is effective in terms of facial rejuvenation, generating great demand for aesthetic treatments and, in the future, new advances in its applicability can be studied in order to reduce its side effects.

Entre as diversas aplicabilidades da toxina botulínica, o rejuvenescimento facial é o mais procurado, tendo como foco a paralisação temporária, sendo aplicada para amenizar rugas existentes, evitando também o aparecimento de novas rugas faciais. O objetivo desse trabalho foi realizar uma análise dos aspectos relevantes do uso da toxina botulínica no tratamento estético facial e seus diversos mecanismos de ação. Para tanto foi realizada uma revisão de literatura através de buscas nos bancos de dados científicos, tais como Medline, Pubmed, Science Direct, Lilacs, Scirus, Google Acadêmico e Periódicos.
