This paper seeks to understand how the United Nations Environment Program influences the implementation of the climate agenda, in accordance with the principles of Global Environmental Governance. Therefore, it was examined what this concept means and how it can contribute to the fight against climate change, which has so affected people, the planet, and its ecosystems, with less than optimistic projections for the future. Thus, through documentary research, the trajectory of UNEP was analyzed, from its creation, evolution, as well as its main achievements, especially regarding the climate system. Further on, a more recent scientific assessment on the harmfulness of the climate crisis was verified through descriptive and quantitative analysis, as well as the evolution of this agenda at the international level, highlighting the importance of joint action in tackling the issue. It was also sought to compare whether the measures adopted by the Program collaborate with the progress of the 2030 Agenda, in particular the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 13 “Climate Action”. Finally, it was considered that UNEP, despite its limitations, contributed to the achievement of the referred goal. Furthermore, it was found that the Global Environmental Governance approach is quite adequate for the purposes of the climate agenda since its fulfillment would be compromised if actions are implemented in an isolated or restricted manner.
