O percurso do ator Miguilim como sujeito pragmático, cognitivo e passional na novela “Campo Geral”

Through the prism of French semiotics, this paper analyzes scenes from “Campo Geral”, one of João Guimarães Rosa's story in the book “Corpo de Baile”. Our objective is to analyze the path of the actor Miguilim as a pragmatic, cognitive, and passional subject, especially concerning the way the passion of cholera and its variants are manifested through the scenes of the story, which is about the conflicting relation between the boy Miguilim and his father Bero. Regarding such objectives, we firstly conducted some bibliographical research on semiotics theory, focusing on the pragmatic, cognitive and passional dimensions of the texts. After that, we analyzed the path of the actor Miguilim, observing his actions as a pragmatic subject, which lead him towards the transformation of his states. We also observed his course as a cognitive subject, who traverses from lack of knowledge to an awareness state about aspects of existence which matures him despite his being a boy. We especially described the happiness and sorrow states of soul which Miguilim has to deal in his trajectory. It is important to highlight that, for semiotics, the passions must be understood as sense effects which are inscribed in language and are connected to the transformations of states of soul of the subjects, related to the modalization of the being. Therefore, parallel to the protagonist subject's acting, we focused on his states of soul and his discoveries during childhood. Keywords: actor; passion; cholera; Guimarães Rosa
