Resumo: Soft tissue sarcomas are rare neoplasms originating from mesenchymal tissues and which have a biopsy as a great ally in the diagnosis, treatment and management of patients affected by these pathologies. Biopsy is still a procedure that generates a lot of doubts among professionals, especially regarding the possible tumor contamination of the procedure. This study aims to identify a rate of tumor contamination in biopsies performed at the reference hospital in the treatment of cancer in Paraíba. The study is a documentary, descriptive and cross-sectional research, with a sample of 10 medical records of patients undergoing biopsy of soft tissue sarcomas in 2019. The variables collected were the age and sex of the patient, the type of biopsy, or histological subtype of the tumor and the presence or absence of tumor contamination in the biopsy path. The data were synchronized and tabulated for final results. This study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Centro Universitário de João Pessoa (UNIPÊ), CAAE: 37862720.8.0000.5176. Of the total medical records available, 50% (n = 5) were female and 50% male. The ages varied between 09 to 35 years old, 20% of them (n = 2) with 12 years old and 30% (n = 3) with 15 years old. 80% (n = 8) of the patients was affected by the pleomorphic sarcoma subtype, 10% (n = 1) liposarcoma and 10% (n = 1) synoviosarcoma.100% (n = 10) of the biopsies were percutaneous. 90% (n = 9) of the biopsies were assessed as not contaminated. The contamination rate of the biopsy pathway of soft tissue sarcomas found in this study was 10%, suggesting the safety of the procedure, as long as performed with the resection of the pathway.
