This study aimed to characterize the management of solid wastes of health services (RSSS) of São Sebastião do Paraíso, studying the perceptions of professionals of Family Health Program (PSF) on the risks of industrial accidents with hazardous wastes. Were prepared semi-structured interviews separate, applied to three categories of professionals. These led to a survey on the steps of the management of RSSS and working conditions and handling of waste. In all, 71 professionals were interwied, including the responsible management of the municipality sector, 69 health profissionals who deal the USF – RSSS and the last one responsible for the thirdparty wast collection and management of RSSS. According to the controller management for the municipality sector is produced 400 kg of RSSS monthly. According to the department responsible for collecting outsourced, these wastes are collected in São Sebastião do Paraíso, taken to Poços de Caldas city, where they are undergoing treatment in the autoclave and then transported to Belo Horizonte city were they are incinerated. Regarding the perception of health professionals on risks of occupational accidents and handling, 85% said EPI’s used properly, 58% reported not having participated in training on RSSS after recruitment. Approximately 94% reported being exposed to accidents at work, mainly with perforating, with the risk of infection. With respect to the fate of RSSS, about 85% of profissionals show little or knowledge and/or interest with respected to the treatment and disposal of the RSSS in the stage of post-collection units. It could be concluded that although more than 50% of professionals dealing with RSSS in São Sebastião do Paraíso have a higher level degree in university, few have knowledge about the stages of management RSSS generated in the units where they work and have little interest in environmental issues involved in the production solid waste. This study emphasizes the importance of establishing public policies for creating and maintaining healthy environment that integrate issues environmental preservation practices of public health.
