In primary health care, the nurse as a member of the multidisciplinary team has the opportunity to promote actions for the prevention of Diabetes mellitus and its complications. In view of this, the objective was to identify in the scientific articles what are the benefits of carrying out the nursing consultation for the screening and prevention of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM). This is an integrative literature review, carried out in the electronic databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS), Nursing Databases (BDENF) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), in search for articles published from 2015 to 2021. In total, 12 studies were selected whose results showed that nurses work both in the identification and tracking of pregnant women at risk of developing GDM and in the monitoring of pregnant women diagnosed with this metabolic syndrome. Research reveals that the benefit of its performance refers to the possibility of preventing complications to both maternal and fetal health, through care and educational interventions, thus allowing a favorable outcome of the gestational process. Through risk factors, symptoms and glucose tests, pregnant women at risk are screened; those diagnosed should receive guidance on the blood glucose tests that will be performed during pregnancy, blood glucose annotation map, drug therapy, physical activity, when indicated, and dietary restriction, which must be individualized as it is considered essential to achieve the goals of the treatment.
